I hope these links still work. Crime Time Scene of the Crime - More Brubraker crime. This is the story that really made me take notice of him, and although he claimed to be willing, able, and ready to write new stories with the character, it's kind of faded into the background behind his Sleeper/Criminal/etc work. Gotham Central - Homicide: Life on the Street in Gotham City. Simple concept, great execution. Ethnic Corner Scalped - I just started reading this, and blew through the thirty issues currently out in a single go. Prodigal Lakota son returns home to the reservation on the eve of the opening of the long-promised casino that's supposed to save the tribe. So much good stuff, I don't know where to start. Read this book. Hipster Haven Local - 12 issues, 12 cities, 12 stories, one main character. Concept is good, but it sacrifices character and depth for cuteness and faux-pathos more than once. FABIO will instinctively hate this, and I can't say he's not completely justified in doing so. Girls Have Vaginas Strangers in Paradise - Long running b&w indie series that shifted from comedy to melodrama to thriller back to melodrama before finally settling in as a examination of relationships and the blurred lines between eros, storge, philia, and agape. Also, hot lesbian action. Girls - 25 issue thriller from the Luna Brothers that is really a thinly-disguised metaphor for male confusion, anger, and fear of obsolescence in response to today's increased female sexual aggressiveness and political savvy. Either that, or it's a bunch of nymphomaniacs running wild. One or the other.
