When I got to the Badlands I wanted to quit, then I upgraded the Nano-Rifle
Everything I thought I knew about the game up until the Badlands is WRONG. - The Rocket Launcher is terrible. 18 rockets is your ammo max and it takes over NINE (!!!) to destroy ONE TANK. - Arc Welder is terrible. Useless for Convoy attacks because you CAN'T HIJACK CONVOY VEHICLES THAT HAVE BEEN TAGGED AS REQUIRING DESTRUCTION. How the fuck are you supposed to take out a convoy of two tanks and two APC's without hijacking one of the tanks, destroying the other three vehicles, and then blowing up the last one? I don't know! You'll run out of ammo first! It's IMPOSSIBLE. Fuck Convoy missions. - Most of the Heavy Metal challenges are great, except for the few that are "Without me providing you with any weapons or vehicles with guns on them, destroy THIRTY FIVE VEHICLES, GO NOW!" - Badlands is the worst place to try and up morale and reduce control. Whereas in Dust I couldn't go five feet without having a random courier/convoy/defend area job popping up, you can cruise around for 10 minutes and nothing will happen. It's also very weak on challenges to do for scrap and without the morale multiplier it's a fucking wash. I stayed just long enough to collect enough 1200 scrap for the Nano Rifle and its ammo upgrade. - Seriously, the fucking Nano Rifle. It's awesome. Always use it. - Late in the game you get offered a Thermobaric Rocket Launcher for a grand total of 3000 scrap (!!!) to be fully upgraded, that's 1000 for the initial 4-round launcher and 2000 for doubling the ammo. This is a fucking scam, just up your capacity on your mining charges and carry them. (The Thermobaric will level an office building in two shots, but it still sucks) - However the Jetpack is definitely worth the scrap to fully upgrade and makes exploring a lot more fun now that you're not stopped by obnoxious canyon slopes. - Going to Eos is rewarding, and I wish they had done more with the place. However they seem to have run out of ideas after that. What the hell was up with sending me all the way across the map on a pickup mission just to progress the story? And then sending me on ANOTHER pickup mission right after that? And then you give me not one, but TWO times where I'm using a satellite-link top down display to call in infinite artillery strikes? Booooooooooooooooooooooring. Followed by a finale hike up a mountain that was not TOTALLY ripped off of Mercenaries. - There's no New Game+ mode after you beat the game. Instead it just sends you into full sandbox mode like every other sandbox game and your only options are to rip up everything, beat your old scores on challenges, and shit. It doesn't even have the courtesy to rebuild all the stuff you've already destroyed or let you replay old missions! Verdict: Disappointed positive! Worth a rental. But not worth going back to. Also Yahtzee's review of this game is terrible. Like picking up Super Mario Tennis and giving it a 1/10 because it didn't have any platform jumping in it. Hey, Yahtzee, GUERRILLA IS A TITLE, NOT A GENRE.
