Re: I found archives of the first 9 months

I'm not deleting the stupid Metafilter thread. Nobody cared when it was first transcribed and people will only care now because now they know you want it off. If you had simply mailed me the data people would stop being passive aggressive to you because it would be stupid to be that way to you. Now? Well, it's already happening.
As far as the Metafilter thread goes: meh. If people want to think it seriously bothers me, let them. I rather like the nick Ryvar, and I'd prefer to keep it all things being equal, but if it's a pain I'll simply abandon it. I just happen to think that, intellectual property laws being what they are at this point in time, it's an incredibly fucking stupid way to play Russian Roulette with your site, but that's your business and not mine.
Hey, people quote what Bill says elsewhere, what Worm says elsewhere, what that one LiveJournal mope said elsewhere and what I say elsewhere. I don't care. It takes them two seconds to Ctrl-C & Ctrl-V it here. It takes me significantly longer to delete it. Besides, I've had enough with deleted posts. The answer is -- what -- to ban? So now I'm deleting content and banning people for pasting stuff. No. Tell you what, if you write a book -- call it Dinner With Mysterio or whatever else you like, I'll happily remove any transcribed content from it. I'm not regulating stuff from Metafilter, especially since you are not offering to stop posting there and elsewhere and you react poorly to people seeing what you write elsewhere. If I were going to do that sort of thing I'd have done it for Bill and Worm long ago for the simple fact that they, as of yet, haven't wiped the site clean and made people apologize for insinuating that you did it alone before you came clean with the fact that you did it alone.
Banning is not the answer because on sites that anyone can post to banning is fundamentally impossible, period. Zseni taught me that one a while ago. I think that, between the Metafilter and the QT3 and the Livejournal stuff you're setting yourself up to get knocked out of orbit by some angry pissant with two braincells and a bit of spare cash, but the risk analysis on this topic is really your call to make and not mine. I also think Caltrops would be better if, after I stop posting to this thread (shortly, as I'm beginning to sound like a broken record), it simply moved the fuck on - and at the same time you reduced your potential legal liability with someone you fundamentally cannot trust, but this is again your call.
If you want to send me the archive, send it to caltrops@gmail.com intact. If Chet popped up and said he had the OMM archive minus his posts, my interest would be equally low. This site is already a punchline because it keeps getting destroyed, I have no interest in adding to its legacy a laughably incomplete archive where each thread descends into blinking stupidity because the most common poster of the first nine months has all references to his posts destroyed.
Fair enough. I'll toss it over shortly. You seem bothered by the incompleteness of the archive, so I'll email Roj again for all the good it will do - don't hold your breath.
Lastly, making your wife the sacrificial lamb for your closing the site down and making her the subject of our rage is possibly the lowest thing I've ever seen a guy do to his girl. I don't care if it was her idea or if you came to it together: there's something called Being a Man that ought to stop you from considering such a thing. Being a Man means taking responsibility for what you do and it also means never, ever subjecting your woman to all the nasty side effects of your difficult decisions. The rest of this shit is just fags screeching at each other and is forgotten the instant the bunch of us drop off line. You tying your woman to the train tracks so you can later pantomime rescuing her is, in my opinion, the thing you ought to really be character assassinated for.
100% agreement. More than anything else, I regret doing that, and for failing to - as you say - Be a Man. In the end, all I can do is own up to my mistakes and do what little I can to make the situation right. --SB
