This is icy's Places That Me And Jean Baudrillard Are Mentioned On The Internet thread. Let's take a look.

Some writers in their manner and stance intentionally provoke challenge and criticism from their readers. Others just invite you to think. Baudrillard's hyperprose demands only that you grunt wide-eyed or bewildered assent. He yearns to have intellectual influence, but must fend off any serious analysis of his own writing, remaining free to leap from one bombastic assertion to the next, no matter how brazen. Your place is simply to buy his books, adopt his jargon, and drop his name wherever possible.
http://denisdutton.com/baudrillard_review.htm Inferior criticism always adopts the same stance regardless of the level of the work or the critic. It always relies on cheap shots, because when you are outgunned and outmaneuvered, that's all you've got at your disposal.
Outmaneuvered and outgunned man takes cheap shot at outmaneuvering outgunning shooters, then goes back to playing Shoujo Neko Kawaii 7 ~Je Suis Une Chatte~. Oh, his professional qualifications? I think you'll find he's a little too smart to fall for that old canard. This is a degree-free zone, that's how you know it's worthwhile.
http://www.eegra.com/forum/showthread.php?p=16944#post16944 Quote: Oh, God, I read a few more articles from that insomnia.ac site and that Alex Kierkegaard is a complete idiot. Please tell me that you didn't get the rest of your ideas from that guy, Mr Naruhodo.

Quote: I think Kierkegaard has written the most intelligent, clearly-written articles about video games on the internet, by far. If you can't see that, well, I don't care. It's not my job to convince you. But I think it's telling that all of you that have criticized him haven't actually deconstructed any points he's made and proven them wrong, but instead just call him an asshole.
Again with these people and their magical thinking. First off, "deconstructing" doesn't mean the same thing as "disproving" - it doesn't even mean "contending." It means that you read something so completely, pursuing the meaning of each word and phrase so fully, that you understand its origin and start to dissolve the foundation of the thought itself. Not "dissolve" as in "disprove", but "dissolve" as in "it is so fully questioned as to become either cliche or fabrication." The foundation - not the original statement. One of the goals of deconstruction is to show that even the most "authoritative" text draws most of, if not all of, its authority from its immediate context and its social status. It is the exact opposite of everything that icycalm appears to believe in: functional, empirical, scholarly, reactionary, authority-negating - this despite icy's perpetual lip service to postmodern thinkers and radical deconstructionism. This term, "deconstruct", is subtle and almost useless. It is a specific, meaningful, and important tool in textual analysis; it doesn't really bother with evaluating a piece of text at the level of "is it clearly written" or "is the argument logical" - indeed it would be more likely used to attack and study the essence of clearness in writing or the notion of logicality in rhetoric. icy has a lot of these rather young men leaping to his aid excitedly, and he, a slightly older roué, takes advantage of their brainless enthusiasm. They are excited by his manly rage and simple, glamorous, chapter-and-verse approach to philosophy - that is, his fundamentalism. The whole thing is wonderfully homoerotic. I may write fanfiction about it.
