I have a feeling ray is going to crash and burn like this if they ever make TF3 and redo 2fort again, completely negating all the experience he has with TF2's 2fort.
Maps are bad. The map is, by default, a liability and hindrance to gameplay. A good map is one that imposes on the players just enough to separate good from bad, and no more!!!. The guy who invented Scrabble played thousands of games over many years, against his wife, experimenting with board layouts and sizes and starting positions. And the result was a very good map, and that's what people play, always, even now that computers can trivially produce WACKY board layouts with naked lady backgrounds. The superiority of his effort over any hundred weakass attempts is self-evident.
Some people don't want any variation in their gameplay, they want literally the same thing over and over and over again until the end of time,
In a good game, variation arises naturally as the level of play evolves and mutates. Both Q3 and TF2 satisfy this test. Looking to "mapmakers" (a CRAFT that does not deserve its own noun) for variation is like looking to admins for a readable forum.
Obviously it's just written by people who are angry that all the pod people life wasting they did writing scripts for conc jumping or whatever all ended up going to waste, and in the end they have nothing to show for the however many years they played TFC, and blame Valve for not justifying the amount of work they put into mastering TFC 2fort.
I refused to learn trickjumps on ctf4 because the skills were non portable. To this day I can do only the most rudimentary ones.
