Just as I thought. It turns out Dean Takahashi was wrong to criticize Mass Effect for the eight hours he spent not having any fun with it, and he's apologized on his blog. Let's skip straight to the comments.

Wow! You guys are so warm and fuzzy down there. Can’t hurt anyone’s feeling. Group hug!!!Sorry, but I’m up here in Washington State where when somebody doesn’t like a game, they stick to their opinion and not erupt in an obsequious mass of apologetic servitude. You know, you may be able to sleep better at night knowing you are standing your ground and displaying some back-bone I.E. Juevos.
North of the Canadian border, Washingtonians are known for their fiery latin tempers.

Dean - I don’t understand how you reviewed Mass Effect without playing it to the end. And in the comments of your first review, you mentioned that you haven’t finished playing games before you review them. Imagine if Ebert only watched 20 minutes of a movie before writing his reviews!

As much as I appreciate your apology and earnestness, I don’t quite approve of reviewing games you’ve only sunk 8 hours in.
Your writing is very good and all and you mentionned this is only a small part of your duty, but all of this makes your reviews as a whole very unreliable and untrustworthy. I strongly urge your bosses/you to come up with a standardized reviewing process.
I wonder how people would feel if they knew Ebert saw only 1/3 of a given movie and then wrote a bad review of it.

Let me be the first to ask the question, what if Ebert only watched small portions of the movies he reviews? I think the answer is obvious: God would reach down from the heavens and smite his lying mouth with the same cancer that killed his best friend. That’s called poetic justice, folks ^_^ |
