| i used to watch this sketch comedy show out of seattle called almost live. it came on king-5 either just before or just after saturday night live, depending on if the game or movie ran long that night. they had this one character called bill nye the science guy who went on to fame and fortune on the discovery channel but that was about it. oh and the guy who was like a much worse phil hartman sometimes does ads for a seattle taco place now with a talking cactus.
it turned out not being from seattle or knowing anything about it would prove an impediment to my enjoying about 80% of the material. the host would come out and do a monologue starting with a statement like "boy they sure do like their barbeque sauce out in renton" and the audience would giggle. then he would follow that up with a story about driving down the i95 and getting an eyeful of that new billboard. "now those are some tight pants. i guess we know why he looks so happy about his shampoo" but you wouldn't have a fuckin clue. they did characters too but they were all fucked. like this one guy in a flannel shirt and a baseball cap that said tacoma on it. the whole joke was people in tacoma dress stupid because they are stupid. and the "high fivin' white guys" who i won't even get into because all they did was high five in a time when that was mostly a black thing. needless to say some very big fuckin sunglasses were involved. the point is with my background i should have known better than to post something i was too ashamed to put dennis miller's name on. sorry. |
