I still have my ATC sim survey post coming (see other thread). It's coming along nicely. Not to spoiler it, though, Tracon! 2012 is the best and only choice for anyone interested in maximum realism. It is not great in any way, and this should not be considered an endorsement, but for people interested in the subject matter, right now, it's all we have. Sour boot dat.
Anyway, the most important thing in the Tracon package is not the game itself, but the editor, since the sectors that come with the game are wildly broken from a realism standpoint, and to get any more, you have to pay upwards of $20 to get a single sector some other schlub had created with the editor.
Well, fuck this. I want Albuquerque so I can recreate the Breaking Bad scene, and that's not for sale, so I am going to create from WHOLE CLOTH the KABQ TRACON sector. The editor is the best part of the package, and while it is also not great, it at least kind of works. This will be a fun project which you can all follow along with.
As an editorial note, I seem to pick game genres where one cannot point to a single entry and say, yep, that's a great one. They all suck in various ways. Tracon! 2012 is borderline terrible, and broken all over the place, but it's a testament to the sad state of the genre that it's all I/we have, if we want a reasonably modern facsimile of the approach/departure experience.
God. What a life. |
